1 Peter Resource Center

Thank you for joining us in studying the book of 1 Peter.

The Apostle Peter took it upon himself to alert the church of the impending trouble. He warned the flock that adversaries were already rallying against them (I Peter 3:9), vilifying them (I Peter 3:16), and speaking evil of them (I Peter 4:4). A coming wave of hate-inspired actions and even government action was a growing possibility for the Christians of Asia Minor. History would prove Peter right. These early Christians needed to know how to handle these fiery trials that were to come upon them. Peter, in the most profound way, wrote them a letter pointing them to Christ, our great example, who also endured unjust suffering from a lost and rebellious world.

The message of I Peter is our message too. In spite of living in an unchristian world, followers of Jesus can live a life of sustained hope and encouragement - “I have written to you briefly, encouraging you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it” (I Peter 5:12). Today we need Peter’s practical message more than ever. The shifting culture around us only adds to the complexity of the trials and difficulties we already face.

Yours,
