Fundamentals Training

We invite you to join us for this life changing training that involves over 30 hours of teaching over the course of 3 weekends.

Snohomish Community Church is pleased to announce an upcoming training course designed for individuals seeking comprehensive insights into the profound application of the Bible across various facets of life. This course spans three weekends, encompassing Friday sessions from 6 pm to 9:30 pm and Saturdays from 9am - 4:30 pm.

Facilitated by seasoned biblical counseling pastors, this program offers a substantial 30 hours of instruction, focusing on deepening one's understanding of God's Word and its practical implications for addressing life's complexities.

Participants can anticipate acquiring foundational truths and proven counseling methodologies grounded in biblical principles. The curriculum encompasses essential topics such as anxiety, depression, conflict resolution, marriage dynamics, and the transformative process of sanctification.

Worth noting is that this training satisfies the instructional prerequisites for counseling certification through the esteemed Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC). Whether or not formal certification is a personal objective, countless individuals have found this course to be a profoundly transformative experience.

Speaker Biographies

Joe Miller : Pastor and OIC Japan Coordinator

Joe serves as Pastor of Adult Ministries at Kindred Church in Anaheim Hills, CA. He is a certified member of the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors. He received a B.S. from the University of California Los Angeles, an M.Div. from The Master’s Seminary, and a D.Min. in Biblical Counseling from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Over the last 25 years, Joe has served in local churches in Colorado, California, Minnesota, Florida, Tennessee, and Washington preaching God’s Word, teaching biblical counseling, as well as shepherding, discipling, and providing soul care to God’s people. Joe is also the Japan Coordinator for Overseas Instruction in Counseling (OIC).

Joe has been blessed with a godly wife, Tara, and they have four children, Huntington, Dakota, Skye, and Liberty, along with two Australian Shepherds named Johnny Mac & Jacobus Arminius (aka: Armee).

Steve Mawhorter : Pastor and OIC Board Member and Teacher

Steve Mawhorter has been in ministry for 49 years, most recently as the founder and pastor of the biblical counseling ministry at NorthCreek Church in Walnut Creek, California, where he served for the last 25 years.

Steve has his master’s in biblical counseling from The Master's University and is certified as a biblical counselor with ACBC. He is also the author of Lessons Learned and is working on another book in the field of premarital counseling. In addition, he is on the board of trustees and frequently teaches for OIC.

 He is married to his wife, Sue, and has two kids and three grandkids. He is currently retired (sort of) and living in Franklin, Tennessee, and attends Stonebridge Bible Church where he hopes to start a biblical counseling ministry.

Andrew Rogers : Pastor and OIC Executive Director and ACBC Board Member

 Passionate about discipleship and equipping God’s people for ministry, Andrew has served the church for over 27 years as a pastor, professor, and missionary. He received his B.A. from California State University, Fresno, a M.A. from The Master’s University, a M.Div. from The Master’s Seminary, and a Th.M. and Ph.D. from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Andrew and his wife, Jenny, live in Anaheim Hills, CA, and have four children, Zach, Hayden, Kailey, and Paige. He currently serves as a pastor at Kindred Community Church and as Executive Director of Overseas Instruction in Counseling, a ministry devoted to strengthening churches around the world through biblical counseling. He is also a Fellow and Board Member with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC), and a member of The Evangelical Theological Society (ETS).
